January 2008

  • Special Lecture on Empowerment of Women and the Gandhian perspective: Towards Equitable Development was conducted by Gandhian Studies Centre and department of commerce. The first lecture of the series was held on 7.01.2008. 

  • Gandhian Studies Centre and the Department of Home Science Extension Education conducted training for the helpers in the University on 11th  January 2008.

  •  Sarvodaya Day was Celebrated on 30th January.

  •  A seminar was organized for the NSS s volunteers on 31.01.2008. Eminent speakers have delivered valuable lectures on sustainable development technology and E-waste & environment.

  •  Gandhian Studies Centre and the Department of Commerce organised special lecture on  Gandhiji and Women Development on 30th January.

February 2008

  •  State Level Seminar on Gandhian Philosophy and Human Rights, was conducted   by Gandhian Studies Centre and the Department of Human Development on 2nd     February.2008

  •  National Leprosy  Eradication Programme was conducted on 26th February

  • National Level seminar on Gandhian Values and Today's Youth in Higher          Education was organised by Gandhian Studies Centre, Department of Resource Management and Department of Food Service Management and dietetics on 6th March.

  • International Women's Day was celebrated on 7th March 2008.

  • World Cancer Awareness Day on 11th March, 2008

  •  Special lecture on Gandhiji and Women Rights was conducted by Gandhian Studies Centre and Department of Commerce on 12th March 2008

                                                   April & May 2008

Summer camp was conducted by the Gandhian Studies Centre, to inculcate the ideas and principles of Gandhiji among the school going rural and urban  children. The summer camps were conducted in five places in and around Coimbatore A total of 284 children benefitted from the camp i.e. Avinashilingam University (43),          Poochiyur (46), Thudialur (36), Asokapuram (43), kovundampalayam (116).

June & July 2008

 Visit to existing Gandhian Study Clubs and taught the Gandhian Philosophy, Principles and ideals. Books, posters were distributed to the study clubs.

                                                                            August 2008

Regarding independence day celebration  various competitions were conducted with the topic such as  Gandhian principle, Gandhiji and Ahimsa, Truth, Swadeshi, and Untouchability for University students and prizes were distributed to the winners.   

                                          September 2008

Gandhian Studies Centre, Avinashilingam University for women, Coimbatore organized a One day Seminar on  "Role of Gandhian Study Clubs in Spreading the Gandhian Message" 6th September 2008.

·  Special Lecture on "Positive Therapy" was organized by the Gandhian   Studies Centre with the collaboration of Department of Home Science  Extension Education  on 9th September 2008.

·  Special Lecture on"Enhancing Communicative Skills" was organized by the Gandhian   Studies Centre with the  collaboration of Department of Home Science  Extension Education  on 10th September 2008.

·  Special Lecture on "Mind power is Mega Power" was organized by the  Gandhian   Studies Centre with the  collaboration of Department of Home Science  Extension Education  on 24th September 2008.

·  Special Lecture on "Preparation of Bouquet" was organized by the  Gandhian   Studies Centre with the  collaboration of Department of Home Science  Extension Education  on 25th September 2008.

·  Seminar  on "Gandhism and Globalisation"  was organized by the  Gandhian   Studies Centre with the  collaboration of Department of Economics  on 29th September 2008.

October 2008 

The Gandhian Studies Centre of Avinashilingam University for Women and PSGR Krishnammal College for Women had celebrated Gandhi Jayanthi near Gandhi Tree   (planted by Gandhiji before 75 years) at Ramanathapuram on 2nd october2008. About 250 students participated in that programme. The Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, Dean Humanities and Coordinators of Gandhian Studies Centre from Avinashilingam University for Women had participated in the programme.
