Electronics and Communication Engineering

The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was established in the year 2000 with B.E programme in Electronics and Communication. The department provides quality and contemporary education for the students to identify, formulate and apply appropriate techniques, resources and to solve complex engineering problems through their expertise in electronics & communication engineering. The department has experienced and well qualified staff members in various fields of specialisation to give appropriate inputs and guidance for the students to succeed in life. The department has sophisticated laboratories that generate interest and skills that an Electronics and Communication Engineer will pursue.

The curriculum and teaching learning process imparts a solid foundation in Electronics and Communication Engineering fundamentals with an attitude to pursue continuing education.

Integrated M.Tech. Programme will integrate B.E. Electronics and Communication Engineering leading to M.Tech. specialisation in Internet of Things. The main advantage of this programme is that a student instead of spending 6 years to complete BE+M.Tech., a student joining Integrated M.Tech. Degree can complete Masters Programme in 5 years. The postgraduates will have wide opportunity in multinational, National and start-ups that are into developing IoT solutions for automotive, medical, consumer, aviation, hospitality, agriculture industries and various defence organisations. The curriculum is tailor-made to industry requirements. The students will also have bright opportunities in research organisations both in India and Abroad.

The department has signed a MoU with M/S EdGate and has set up a “Texas Instruments Innovation Centre” to work in the emerging area of research Internet of Things (IoT).

M.E. Embedded System and VLSI

Most the applications to-day from home appliances to industrial manufacturing are automated, all these have been possible because of Embedded chips and the programmes in them. Engineers and designers are very much required in this area with exceptional skill and emerging techniques. Keeping this in view the department of Electronics and Communication has started Master of Engineering in Embedded System and VLSI of 2-years duration. It focuses on enriching the students to excel in cutting edge technology in Embedded system and VLSI, creating competent, innovative, and productive professionals in this field. VLSI or Very Large Scale Integration is a process by which an engineer makes complex integrated circuits by combining a million/billion number of transistors into a single chip. The ICs/Micro Processor/Micro-Controller/ chips developed and fabricated using VLSI technology become the heart of embedded systems that drive vehicles, industrial robots, home appliances, toys, IoT devices and what not. It is imperative that industries like Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, Intel, AMD, Cognizant, Tesla, Volvo, Robert Bosch etc. require designers, analysts, developers, testing and marketing engineers with a postgraduate degree in Embedded System and VLSI sector.

In this context, the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering would like to satisfy the growing human resource demands of Embedded and VLSI industries, by creating engineers through its M.E programme in Embedded System and VLSI. The programme electives are streamed in three verticals including Programming, Design and Application aspects in Embedded VLSI.

Upon Successful completion of the programme, the student

  • Will have a sound knowledge in embedded system design and development.
  • Will be able to design and implement integrated embedded circuits in software platform.
  • Will gain the necessary skills for technical planning and implementation.
  • Can choose research-based or analysis-oriented careers as this course gives the students the skills for qualitative and quantitative analysis in this domain.

Thrust Areas of Research

  • VLSI Design
  • Embedded Systems and Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Microwave and Optical Communication
  • Wireless Sensor Networks
