Plagiarism is the "wrongful appropriation" and "stealing and publication" of another author's "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions" and the representation of them as one's own original work.

Plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty and a breach of journalistic ethics. It is subject to sanctions such as penalties, suspension, and even expulsion from school or work

Plagiarism Detection

Plagiarism detection is the process of locating instances of plagiarism in a work or document. The widespread use of computers and the advent of the internet have made it easier to plagiarize the work of others.

The University Library has now the facility to detect plagiarism using the softwares like Turnitin (Subscribed) and URKUND (supported by UGC INFLIBNET). The software helps to detect the possible plagiarism in a document and generates a report showing the similarities with other documents.

Turnitin

Turnitin is an originality checking and plagiarism prevention service that checks your writing for citation mistakes or inappropriate copying.  When you submit your paper, Turnitin compares it to text in its massive database of student work, websites, books, articles, etc.

Urkund

Urkund offer a fully-automated system for handling the problem with plagiarism. URKUND automatically checks submitted text for plagiarism which encourages original writing amongst students and corporate writers.
