Classification:
This section plays a vital role for smooth functioning of the library.
- Colon Classification is used for book classification
- After accessioning, the document should be assigned a call number.
- The call number indicates the class number and book number
- The call number which decides the place of the document on the shelf.
- There are two purposes of classification of documents
- 1. To help the user to find a document
- 2. To find out all documents on a given subject together
Cataloguing:
Bibliographic details of each book are entered into Cataloguing Module of library software according to AACR2 Standards. For complete bibliographic details like edition, year of publication, subject, keywords, etc. are prepared by this section. The details entered in this section are indexed on various fields like Author; Title, Subjects, Classification Number, Keywords, etc., and can be retrieved through the OPAC service.
Processing of Books:
- Stamping : Library stamp is put on the back of the title page, on secret page and on the last page
- Pasting the date labels and book packet
- Spine labels, barcodes on the front page and on the title page and one secret page and last page is pasted
- Paste the RFID tags on the last page of the book and write the book details in the tag
- The completely ready to use new arrivals are sent to the new additions display counter
- The new arrivals list is send to the respective departments
